Parent FAQ

If you are new to scouting in general or just new to 1st Douglas, it can seem quite daunting. If your question isn’t answered below, please get in touch with either the leader of your group, or through the Contact Us page.

We are always on the lookout for volunteers to help run the evenings, but if this is not for you, there are many other ways you may be able to help. Do you work somewhere interesting that the children could visit? Could you help on the executive committee? Have you an interesting skill you could share? If you answer yes to any of these, please get in touch!

Use the get in touch page to contact us. We have do have a waiting list for beavers, so the sooner you get the name on the list, the better. Other sections may operate a waiting list at times.

There is a cost of £35 per term per child. Over half of this is for insurance, with the rest covering badges and hall upkeep for example. All of the leaders are volunteers. Please note that some activities or trips may have additional fees. Should you have any issues with the costs, get in touch with any of the leaders as we do not wish costs to be a barrier for the kids to join in

Most weeks, just a uniform top (beavers and cubs their jumper and scouts their shirt) and the necker is all that is required. Please check with the leaders from the individual sections and also may be different when out and about.

When you are settled in the group, you can order your uniform online at https://shop.scouts.org.uk/
